COURSE DESCRIPTION: This
course analyzes the government's influence on economic efficiency,
resource
allocation, income distribution and economic growth. The course covers
government spending, regulation, and tax policy. Concepts discussed
include
tax incidence, public goods and externalities, public choice, benefit
cost
analysis. Special attention is devoted to issues of health care,
education,
the welfare system, the financing of social security, the federal
budget
deficit and the national debt.

271 or exceptionally strong performance in E111 or E105.
